VMA and the Hesa Fredrik siren
VMA (Important Public Announcement) is Sweden's warning system for serious accidents and emergencies.
Next test of the Hesa Fredrik siren
The siren is tested at 15:00 on the first Monday that is not a public holiday in March, June, September and December.
What the signals sound like
- Important public announcement
- 7 seconds of sound followed by 14 seconds of silence, repeated for at least 2 minutes.
- All clear
- One continuous signal for 30 seconds.
If the siren sounds (other than a test)
- Go indoors.
- Close doors, windows and ventilation.
- Listen to Sveriges Radio P4 or go to krisinformation.se.
- Don't call 112 to ask about the situation – the lines are needed for emergencies.
Blåljuslistan does not show VMA in real time yet. Current VMA are broadcast on Sveriges Radio P4 and published on krisinformation.se.
